TCC pressure plate applies and supports against the converter cover. Since it is splined to the torque converter turbine hub and provides a mechanical direct drive coupling of the engine to the transmission. The mechanical coupling eliminates micro slip in torque converter fluid coupling to make the engine torque be sent effectively to drive wheel through transmission.

ON: At this time the torque converter clutch is considered applied - ON.

Stage 4: During this phase, the TCC Regulator Valve apply pressure decreases with the TCC PWM solenoid valve duty cycle dropping. Spring tension pushes back the valve to decrease the regulated apply pressure. The operation can decrease the apply force on TCC pressure plate to slip threshold. And make TCC pressure plate prepares to release smoothly.

Stage 5: TCC PWM solenoid valve duty cycle drops evenly during this stage. The operation makes regulated apply force decrease to about 0 pressure from slip threshold over a brief time. Within the duty cycle, the regulated TCC Regulator Valve apply pressure should release the torque converter clutch pressure plate completely. Slip speed should be the maximum.

Stage 6: TCM makes the TCC PWM solenoid valve pulse be 0. Now, the TCC control valve and enable valve return to their own released position - leave spring position. Now, the released fluid flows back to the torque converter. Move the TCC control valve and enable valve to the released position at this stage.

OFF: At this time, the torque converter clutch is considered released - OFF.
