Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Following the deployment of a side impact air bag, inspect the following parts for damage. Replace these parts if necessary:

   • The seat cushion frame
   • The seat recliner, if equipped
   • The seat adjuster
   • The seat back frame
Failure to do so may cause future personal injury.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Important: Removal of the right or the left inflatable restraint side impact module uses the same procedure.

  3. Move the seat to the full forward position.
  4. Remove the seatback panel cover (2) from the seat (1) by pulling out the bottom of the panel and lowering the top away from the seat to release the hook retainers.

  5. Object Number: 792279  Size: SH
  6. Remove the 2 bolts (1) from the inflatable restraint side impact module bracket.
  7. Remove the module from the seat.
  8. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the module electrical connector.

  9. Object Number: 792283  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the module.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a new inflatable restraint side impact module bracket.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the 2 bracket mounting bolts to the module.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the inflatable restraint side impact module.
  6. Install the connector position assurance to the module electrical connector.
  7. Install the side impact module to the seat.

  8. Object Number: 792279  Size: SH
  9. Install the 2 bolts (1) to the inflatable restraint side impact module.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  11. Install the seat back panel (2) to the seat (1) by sliding the bottom of the panel into place and pushing the top of the panel in until the push-in retainers are secure.
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  13. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced during warranty period, deploy and discard it after the required retention period of the part. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping.
