Caution: When performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, the SIR system must be disabled. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling . Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SIR components, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic module (SDM) maintains a reserved energy supply. The reserved energy supply provides deployment power for the air bags. Deployment power is available for as much as 1 minute after disconnecting the vehicle power. Disabling the SIR system will make the airbag unable to deploy with the reserved energy.

Repair Instructions

The following is the general repair instructions that must be observed to repair the vehicle and restore it the original status.

    • DO NOT place the inflation module at the temperature high than 65°C.
    • Replacement parts must have the correct part number. Do not replace with parts for vehicles of different model.
    • Use genuine GM replacement parts from the authorized GM dealer. DO NOT use the recycled parts to service the SIR system.

Any component that fall from height about 0.91 M (3 ft) shall be discarded.
