Circuit Description

Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic module (SDM) tests the system continuously. When the ignition is ON, the SDM will check the vehicle configuration component installation. If any module is found not programmed after installed to the vehicle or wrong configuration, the SDM will set DTC B 1019. If SDM is replaced, ensure the part installed has the correct part number.

DTC Descriptor

The diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:

DTC B1019: System Configuration Error

The vehicle has DTCs including the DTC symptoms. Refer to Diagnostic Procedure Instructions for DTC information.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B1019 00

    • When programming the SDM, option configuration is wrong.
    • The vehicle has installed wrong SDM.
    • Certain module is not configured after being replaced or configured in error.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The SDM commands the AIR BAG indicator ON via GMLAN serial data communications.
    • The SDM disables all deployments.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

    • The vehicle must be installed with correct SDM.
    • Correct components must be installed.
    • All modules are configured correctly.

Diagnostic Aids

The DTC indicates that the SDM installed in the vehicle is not correct or certain module is not configured after being replaced or certain module is incorrectly configured.

Test Description

The following numbers are corresponding to the steps in the diagnostic table.

  1. This step checks if there is current DTC on SDM.

  2. This step tests if the VIN programmed in the IPM is correct or not.

  3. This step indicates reprogramming to the IPM is necessary.
