Circuit Description

SIR sensing and diagnostic module consists a detecting device, which can transmit the change of speed into electrical signals. SDM compares the signal with the value stored in the memory. When the detected signal is larger than the stored value, SDM will conduct additional signal treatment and compare it with the value in the memory. When both of the signal values are larger than the stored value, SDM will allow the current to flow through the deployment loop to deploy the airbag and/or the pretensioner and set DTC B0052.

DTC Descriptor

The diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B0052 Command Deployment

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition 1 voltage is within normal operating range.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The DTC sets when any of the following occurs:

    • SDM detects frontal crash of sufficient force to deploy the frontal airbag and/or to explode the pretensioner.
    • SDM detects frontal crash of sufficient force to deploy the roof rail module.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The SDM commands the AIR BAG indicator ON via GMLAN serial data communications.
    • The SDM will record the striking data.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC B0052 can be cleared if the following conditions are met:

    • Seat belt pretensioner does not explode for 3 consecutive times.
    • Frontal or side airbag does not deploy.
    • When conditions for the DTC to set no longer exist, use CLEAR DTC function of the scan tool to clear the DTC.
    • After 255 consecutive warm-up cycles without failure, the DTC will be cleared.

When the pretensioner explodes for 3 consecutive times or the frontal or side airbag deploys, DTC B0052 is locked. The locked DTC can not be cleared. After performing the steps in the diagnostic table, replace the SDM.

Diagnostic Aids

The seat belt pretensioner may explode when the crash is not very serious, which may deploy the frontal or side air bag. SDM may bear 3 times of pretensioner explosion, one frontal or side air bag deployment. When it reaches the maximum deployment times, DTC B0052 is locked, which can not be cleared.
