Circuit Description

The outside mirror power fold control switch is contained within the driver door switch assembly (DDSA). The DDSA contains a microprocessor which takes the signal generated by the outside mirror power fold control switch and assigns a digital message to the switch signal. The DDSA sends this message via the GMLAN serial data circuit to the driver door module (DDM) and the passenger front door module (PDM). The DDM and PDM are responsible for controlling the mirrors movements. When the DDSA detects that a fault is present, the DDSA will communicate with the DDM and a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be set. For more detailed information concerning power outside mirror operation refer to Outside Mirror Description and Operation .

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B1715 Outside Mirror Power Fold Control Switch Circuit

This vehicle has DTCs which include DTC symptoms. For more information on DTC symptoms, refer to DTC Symptom Description .

Short to Ground

Conditions for Running the DTC

The DDM and the DDSA must be powered.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The DDSA communicates with the DDM via GMLAN that the outside power mirror fold control switch is closed for more than 30 continuous seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The DDSA deactivates and ignores inputs from the failed switch contacts and stops sending messages for this switch to the DDM and the PDM. The DDSA will continue to respond to inputs from other non-failed switch contacts.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
    • You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command.
    • After 40 consecutive warm-up cycles without failure, the history DTC will be cleared.

Diagnostic Aids

Thoroughly inspect the wiring and connectors. An incomplete inspection of the wiring and connectors may result in misdiagnosis causing part replacement with the reappearance of the malfunction. If an intermittent exists, refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .
