FALSE ABS CODE SET BY DIAG. (PROCEDURE FOR CLEARING CODES)

SUBJECT: FALSE ABS CODES SET BY DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES (CLEAR CODES)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1986-92 A, B, C, D, E, H, K, N, V, Y CARS AND T1, M1, U0 TRUCKS

When performing certain types on non-ABS Brake-related vehicle diagnostics, it may be necessary to spin the wheels. Spinning the wheels on vehicles equipped with Antilock Brakes (ABS) may set false ABS fault codes. Before releasing the vehicles to the customer, check to see if any ABS fault codes have been set. If there are any, verify their authenticity and clear any false ABS fault codes.

To clear ABS fault codes, access the ABS procedure through the Utilities section of the T-100 terminal. The TECH 1 may also be used to clear ABS fault codes.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
