STOP ENGINE TEMP. LIGHT REPAIR SHORTED WIRE CIRCUIT 37

SUBJECT: STOP ENGINE TEMP LIGHT ILLUMINATES (REPAIR CIRCUIT 37 AND BAND EXCESS WIRE LEAD LENGTH)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-91 C, E, K

Thid bulletin is being revised to include additional models and model years.

Some 1985-1991 DeVilles and Fleetwoods (VIN 200000-217766) and some 1986-1991 Eldorados and Sevilles may experience a false illumination of the "Stop Engine Temp" light. This condition may be caused by a shorted circuit 37, light green wire at the engine metal temperature switch. The wiring to the engine metal temperature switch may be too close to the exhaust manifold causing the wire to sag into the exhaust and short when hot.

To repair this condition repair circuit 37 and band the excess wire lead length to the harness clip at the rear bank valve cover.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
