NON-GM PARTS USED FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS

SUBJECT: NON-GM PARTS USED FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS

It has come to our attention that certain wholesale distributors are supplying non-GM camshaft kits to Cadillac dealers. Cadillac test results of these non-GM camshaft kits indicate their dimensional specifications and durability are inadequate. We are quite concerned about the potential negative impact on customer satisfaction that use of such parts could have for both customer pay and warranty repairs. Please refer to the Cadillac Service Policies and Procedures Manual regarding the usage of non-GM parts for warranty repairs. Refer to Section 1. 1.4.

Due to similarity in packaging, dealers receiving these aftermarket kits may be unaware that they are not genuine GM parts. Identification of these aftermarket camshaft kits can be accomplished by examining the carton, or the part itself, for any of the following characteristics:

o The letters CMC appear on the carton end flap or corner (no GM labels are on the carton).

o No part number is stamped into the camshaft.

o Camshaft is found loose in the carton (GM part is packed in a tube inside the carton).

o Carton is held together with tab inserts (GM part is stapled).

o Non-GM kit contains genuine GM part valve lifters and lubricant as the GM kit does.

In your continuing effort to provide the Cadillac owner with a superior level of service and product satisfaction, it is recommended that you do not use these kits containing non-GM parts.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
