SERVICE REPLACEMENT TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY
SUBJECT: SERVICE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLIES (SRTA) - PART NUMBERS FOR ALL 1982-1993 CADILIACS
This bulletin supersedes DSIB 91-I-4 which should be discarded. This bulletin contains new information about Hydra-Matic SRTA availability.
This bulletin expands the list of available SRTA part numbers and covers broad usage. The SRTA chart provides a complete list of the 1982 through 1993 models available through GMSPO.
SRTA Advantages:
o A SRTA is the product of a highly successful, customer satisfaction driven program providing the technician a service alternative when addressing diagnostic and overhaul concerns.
o All SRTA units are designed and remanufactured to current engineering specifications and are often less costly than major overhaul.
o GMSPO Parts Distribution Centers are committed to 48-hour maximum delivery time for all SRTA models, with no VIP charge.
IN THE INTEREST OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION, SRTA MODELS SHOULD ONLY BE CONSIDERED WHEN THE PROJECTED COST OF REPAIR EXCEEDS THE COST OF A SRTA REPLACEMENT.
Cooler flushing MUST be performed whenever a transmission/transaxle is removed for service. It is essential to flush the cooler for SRTA installation, major overhaul, in any case of pump or torque converter replacement, or when fluid contamination is suspected. Time allowance is included in operation K7000 (Transmission Removal and Replacement). Use Kent-Moore tool J-35944 to flush the cooler.
NOTE: Refer to the appropriate Service Information Manual for cooler flow specifications.

IMPORTANT: Service Replacement Transaxle Assemblies (SRTA) are built with "low altitude" calibrations and need to be updated with a service 3-2 control valve spring for use in areas designated as "high altitude". Refer to Figure 1 for a geographical listing of high altitude areas. If this service kit is not installed, a harsh 3-2 shift will occur at high altitudes.
The 3 - 2 control valve spring comes in a service kit which includes a 3 - 2 control valve spring, spacer plate gaskets, and instruction sheets.
