POOR DEFROSTER OPERATION ON DRIVERS SIDE (SERVICE PROC.)

SUBJECT: IMBALANCED DEFROSTER OPERATION ON DRIVER'S SIDE OF WINDSHIELD

MODELS AFFECTED: 1991-1992 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS

Owners of some 1991-1992 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may comment about the defrost pattern or weak blower operation on the driver's side of the windshield.

To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Remove instrument panel upper trim pad.

2. Remove screw in boss. Refer to Figure 1.

3. Remove vanes two, four, and six from distributor assembly by wrapping vanes with duct tape and twisting out with 3 inch 90' needle nose pliers (Snap-On 497ACP or equivalent).

NOTE: No small pieces can fall into the duct or a rattle may result. This is why the vanes must be wrapped with duct tape or equivalent prior to removal. The number four vane also incorporates a boss which must also be wrapped with duct tape and removed while removing the vane.

4. Add a 5/16" thick strip of foam (Kent Industries P/N 40125 or equivalent) to the upper I/P trim pads just above the rear flange of defroster duct to seal the gap between the instrument panel upper trim pad and the distributor assembly.

5. Reinstall the instrument panel upper trim pad.

6. Clean inside of the windshieid and top of the I/P upper trim pad.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T5235 at .4 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
