POOR FENDER TO HOOD FIT IN COWL AREA-REPAIR PROCEDURE

SUBJECT: FENDER TO HOOD FIT IN COWL AREA

MODELS AFFECTED: 1991 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS

Some 1991 DeVilles and Fleetwoods built after VIN breakpoint 218071 may demonstrate a poor fender to hood fit in the cowl area (a "V" gap condition).

To repair a wide gap condition in the cowl area use the following procedure:

1. Check for the presence of a pop rivet at the rear of the fender to the longitudinal bracket. If there is a pop rivet in place, the rivet will have to be removed in order to shim the fender and will no longer be required. Refer to Figure 1.

2. Remove the last two fasteners at the rear of the fender to the upper motor compartment rail.

3. Insert a fiber board shim, P/N 25557719, between the GTX plastic fender and the longitudinal bracket at the rear fastener location. Refer to Figure 1.

NOTE: The fiber board shim comes in a 75 mm length and it should be cut back to approximately 25 mm to facilitate insertion. Refer to Figure 2. These shims can be stacked if necessary.

4. Reinstall the fasteners.

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

For warrnaty purposed use Labor Operation T6540 at .3 hour for the right-front fender or T6541 at .3 hour for the left front fender.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
