The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A dealer may encounter a customer concern of a SES light coming on with DTC P1133 or P1153 found.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Complete the current SI diagnostics for any trouble codes or symptoms found. DTCs P1133/P1153 can be intermittent and hard to duplicate. During diagnostics technicians may notice one or both O2 sensors (sensor 1) reading high.

If diagnostics were inconclusive, DTCs P1133/P1153 were the only codes set, clear all codes, replace the Catalytic Converters, and all four O2 sensors.

Disconnect the battery while replacing the converter Y pipe in order to aid in the relearn of the new components. To assure the relearn process is complete (and the new components are adequately broken in) drive the vehicle for 30 minutes at 40 MPH or greater. Evaluate vehicle repairs after the test drive is complete.

Only replace the Catalytic Converters if the vehicle had only DTCS P1133 and/or P1153. There will be no customer concerns of poor driveability associated with this condition. The customer concern will only be a SES light on. If a vehicle came in with a customer concern of poor driveability (or other DTCs set along with P1133/P1153) do not replace the catalytic converters without addressing the driveability concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
