The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The following information relates to the Full-Size Truck and Utilities Portable Overhead DVD Player Package (P/N 17802180).

Parental Control Overview: The parental control feature allows the user to put a four digit password on common movie ratings. For example, if the User wants to prevent the player from playing movies rated at PG-13 and above, the User would program a code into the PG-13 slot from the parental control screen. The player would then play only PG and G movies unless that code is input to override.

However, several pieces of information are included below relative to the Portable DVD player's parental control feature:

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. Factory defaults to play all movies and the default code needed to set an override code is 0 0 0 0. This code is not provided in any documentation to the customer. The player Quick Start Guide and Owner's Manual are being revised to reflect the default code.
  2. There exists a "master override code" that would be useful in the event a customer programs a setting and forgets the code. The dealership can acquire this code by contacting the ParTech Accessory Group
  3. An issue has been identified with the parental control algorithm not functioning correctly. Specifically, when the User sets a parental control and attempts to play a prohibited movie, a screen pops up to ask you if the User wants to proceed. If the User indicates YES, the next screen shows an input similar to the parental control screen where it is waiting for the code. However, the User will not be able to enter the override code here. The algorithm is being changed to allow override code input using the up/down/left/right arrows. Future shipments of Portable Overhead DVD Players will include this new algorithm.

Please contact the ParTech Accessory Group if any additional information or assistance is needed.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
