Subject:Outside Door Handle Loose, Inoperative Or Does Not Retract

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment that the outside door handle feels loose, is inoperative or does not retract. If there are no signs of damage to the door handle, this could be due to it not being installed properly.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Remove and re-install the existing door handle following the proper assembly sequence below. Please make sure the yellow clip (shown below) shows no sign of damage, if so replace the yellow clip GM Part #16640343. If the handle does not meet customer satisfaction after following this procedure, then replace the door handle.

Proper Assembly Sequence:

  1. Install Lock Rod to the Door Handle
  2. Install handle to Door
  3. Secure the door handle w/2 bolts and torque to 66-93 lb in (9 +/- 1.5 NM)
  4. Install Rod to Latch

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
