Fuel Level Sensor Replacement 4.8L and 5.3L Engines

1. Remove the sending unit. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
2. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
3. Cut the existing fuel level sensor wiring.



4. Squeeze the locking tabs together to remove the fuel level sensor from the fuel sender assembly.



5. Using a screwdriver to release the locking tabs, remove the wiring harness from the fuel sender assembly.

1. Using spray cleaner GM P/N 12377981 (Canadian P/N 10953463) or equivalent, clean the wiring harness O-ring seal surface of the fuel sender.



2. Install the fuel level sender.




Important: To prevent damage to the level sensor wiring, unclip the fuel return tube from the fuel sender and route the level sensor wiring behind the fuel return tube. Clip the fuel return tube back into the fuel sender retaining tabs.

3. Connect the fuel level sensor electrical connector.
4. Install the sending unit. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .

Fuel Level Sensor Replacement 5.3L L59

1. Remove the fuel sending unit. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
2. Push in the retainer in order to disengage the electrical connector.



3. Remove the fuel level sensor electrical connector.



4. Push the locking tangs (1) in towards the interior of the sending unit bucket.



5. Slide the fuel level sensor up and out from the sending unit bucket.

1. Slide the fuel level sensor down in order to install the sensor to the sending unit bucket.



2. Ensure that the locking tangs (1) are engaged.



3. Install the fuel level sensor electrical connector.



4. Ensure that the retainer is completely engaged.
5. Install the fuel sending unit. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .

Fuel Level Sensor Replacement 6.0L Engine - Front Tank

1. Remove the sending unit. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
2. Disconnect the level sensor electrical connector.
3. Release the level sensor retaining clip.
4. Squeeze the locking tangs together, and remove the fuel level sensor (1).

1. Install the fuel level sensor (1).
2. Connect the level sensor electrical connector.
3. Install the sending unit. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .

Fuel Level Sensor Replacement 6.0L Engine- Rear Tank

1. Remove the sending unit. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
2. Disconnect the level sensor electrical connector.
3. Release the level sensor retaining clip.
4. Squeeze the locking tangs together, and remove the fuel level sensor (1).

1. Install the fuel level sensor (1).
2. Connect the level sensor electrical connector.
3. Install the sending unit. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
