Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. Tests for the transfer case shift control module's ability to control the Service Indicator.

  2. Helps determine if the Service Indicator output circuit has an open.

  3. Test the control circuit of the Service Indicator for an open or high resistance.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, command the Service Indicator ON.

Does the Service Indicator turn ON?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the transfer case shift control module.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a fused jumper between the control circuit of the Service Indicator and ground.

Does the Service Indicator turn ON?

Test the control circuit of the Service Indicator for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Service the instrument cluster for an open bulb or circuit board. Refer to Instrument Cluster replacement.

Replace the transfer case shift control module. Refer to transfer case shift control module replacement.

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs .
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for allowing the symptom to re-occur.

Does the symptom re-occur?
