Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. Tests for the transfer case shift control module's ability to control the Service Indicator.

  2. Helps determine if the Service Indicator output circuit has a short to ground.

  3. Test the control circuit of the Service Indicator for a short to ground.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, command the Service Indicator OFF.

Does the Service Indicator turn OFF?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the transfer case shift control module.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the Service Indicator turn OFF?

Test the control circuit of the Service Indicator for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Service the instrument cluster for internal short to ground. Refer to Instrument Cluster replacement.

Replace the transfer case shift control module. Refer to transfer case shift control module replacement.

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs .
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for allowing the symptom to re-occur.
