Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 156641  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolts.
  4. Remove the washers.

  5. Object Number: 156628  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the support plate and the shoe kits.
  7. Remove the springs.
  8. Remove the shoe kits.
  9. Inspect the springs for signs of wear or excessive heat. Replace as needed.
  10. Inspect the support plate friction points for wear. Replace if wear is excessive.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the shoe kits to the support plate.
  2. Connect the springs.
  3. Install the support plate.
  4. Install the shoe kits.

  5. Object Number: 156638  Size: SH
  6. Install the index lever between the shoes.

  7. Object Number: 156641  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the bolts and the washers.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 105 N·m (77 lb ft).

  10. Install the drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
