J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 492729  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle and suitably support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the left rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Pull down on the intermediate park brake cable (2) near the park brake connector (1).
  4. Disconnect the intermediate park brake cable (2) from the park brake cable connector (1).

  5. Object Number: 752029  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the left rear park brake cable (2) from the equalizer (1).

  7. Object Number: 728147  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the left park brake cable (2) from the park brake lever (3).
  9. Using J 37043 , press the locking tabs on the left park brake cable (2).
  10. Remove the left park brake cable (2) from the caliper park brake cable bracket (1).

  11. Object Number: 752036  Size: SH
  12. Using J 37043 depress the locking tabs on the left park brake cable.
  13. Remove the left park brake cable from the rear support mounting bracket (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 752036  Size: SH
  1. Install the left park brake cable (2) to the park brake cable support bracket (1).
  2. Press the left park brake cable into the park brake cable support bracket (1). Ensure that the locking tabs are properly seated.

  3. Object Number: 728147  Size: SH
  4. Connect the left park brake cable (2) to the park brake actuator lever (3).
  5. Install the left park brake cable into the left brake caliper park brake cable bracket (1). Ensure that the locking tabs are properly seated.

  6. Object Number: 752029  Size: SH
  7. Connect the left park brake cable (2) to the equalizer (1).

  8. Object Number: 492729  Size: SH
  9. Connect the intermediate park brake cable (2) to the park brake cable connector (1).
  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
