Rear Disc Brake Hardware Replacement J55

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Overhaul Procedure

  1. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 680415  Size: SH
  3. Remove the rear brake pads (2) from the brake caliper bracket (3).
  4. Remove the rear brake pad retainers (1).
  5. Remove the brake caliper bracket (3). Refer to Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 661837  Size: SH
  7. Mount the brake caliper bracket (1) in a vise.
  8. Using a flat bladed tool or punch carefully tap the caliper pin bolt boots (2) from brake caliper bracket (1).
  9. Carefully insert a small screw driver into the brake caliper bracket mounting bore and rotate and pull the bushing outward to remove.
  10. Clean all parts in clean, denatured alcohol.
  11. Dry with non-lubricated compressed air.
  12. Inspect the brake caliper bracket for cracks. If cracked, replace bracket.
  13. Inspect for worn or damaged threads.
  14. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone lube to the bushing.
  15. Install new bushings into bracket mounting bores.
  16. Using the caliper pin bolt push the new bushings into the bottom of the brake caliper mounting bore.
  17. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone lube to the new caliper pin bolt boots.
  18. Install the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .

  19. Object Number: 727742  Size: SH
  20. Install the brake pad retainers (1) to the caliper bracket.
  21. Install the brake pads (2) to the caliper bracket.
  22. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement .

Rear Disc Brake Hardware Replacement without J55

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

    Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.


    Object Number: 178630  Size: SH
  1. Remove the brake caliper from the mounting bracket and support the brake caliper (2) with heavy mechanic's wire (1), or equivalent; do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 727742  Size: SH
  3. Remove the brake pads (2) from the brake caliper bracket (1).
  4. Remove the brake pad retainers (1) from the brake caliper bracket (3).
  5. Remove the brake caliper bracket (3). Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
  6. Mount the brake caliper bracket (3) in a vise.
  7. Clean all parts in clean, denatured alcohol.
  8. Dry with low pressure, non-lubricated, filtered air.
  9. Inspect the brake caliper bracket for cracks. If cracked, replace bracket.
  10. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone lube to the brake caliper pin bolt sleeves.
  11. Install the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
  12. Install the brake pad retainers (1) to the bracket caliper bracket (3).
  13. Install the brake pads (2) to the bracket caliper bracket (3).
  14. Install the brake caliper to the brake caliper bracket.
