Circuit Description

The switch that failed and generated this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a built in part of the driver door switch assembly (DDSA). There are no external circuits. The DDSA contains a microprocessor which takes the signal generated by the switch contacts and assigns a digital message to it. The DDSA then sends this message over the Serial Data Class 2 communications line to the driver door module (DDM) to move the left mirror, or, to the passenger front door module (PDM), to move the right mirror. The DDM or PDM then applies voltage and ground to the appropriate circuits of the appropriate mirror motor to move the mirror vertically and/or horizontally. The mirror motors are reversible.

It should be noted that, when a contact for a mirror position has failed, it will affect both mirrors.

DTC Descriptors

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:

    • DTC B1697 Mirror Left-Up Control Switch Circuit Low
    • DTC B1702 Mirror Left-Down Control Switch Circuit Low
    • DTC B1707 Mirror Right-Up Control Switch Circuit Low
    • DTC B1712 Mirror Right-Down Control Switch Circuit Low

Conditions for Running the DTC

The self diagnostic test runs once every 300 milliseconds regardless of source voltage.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

If the DDSA detects that the switch contacts are closed for more than 30 continuous seconds, it sets the DTC.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The DDSA deactivates and ignores inputs from the failed switch contacts and stops sending messages for the failed contacts to the DDM and the PDM. The DDSA will continue to respond to inputs from other non-failed switch contacts.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The DDSA clears the current DTC when the switch status changes.

Diagnostic Aids

A sticking switch can cause this DTC to intermittently set current.

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information

2

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With the scan tool, observe the Mirror Switch parameter in the Driver Door Switch Assembly (DDSA) Inputs list.

Does the scan tool display the Idle state?

Go to Step  3

Go to Step  4

3

  1. Activate the mirror switch to all positions.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Mirror Switch parameter.

Does the Mirror Switch parameter change to the corresponding states?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step  4

4

Inspect for poor connections at the driver door switch assembly harness connector. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step  6

Go to Step  5

5

Replace the driver door switch assembly. Refer to Front Door Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?
