Tire Pressure Indicator Sensor Learn w/o WC2 or WC8

Tool Required

J 41760 Tire Pressure Sensor Activating Tool.

The tire pressure monitor (TPM) system uses the instrument panel cluster, dash integration module (DIM), remoter control door lock receiver (RCDLR), keyless entry transmitter, 4 radio frequency transmitting pressure sensors inside each wheel/tire assembly, and the serial data circuit to perform the sensor learn mode functions. The learn procedure must be performed after each tire rotation, after the RCDLR has been replaced, The vehicles battery has been disconnected, or a tire pressure sensor has been replaced. Once the learn mode has been enabled, each of the sensor's unique identification (ID) codes can be learned into the RCDLRs memory. When a magnet is held close to a sensor, an internal switch is closed forcing the sensor to transmit. After the RCDLR has received a sensor transmission, a class 2 message is sent from the RCDLR to the DIM to sound a horn chirp indicating a sensor ID was learned. The RCDLR must learn the sensor IDs in the proper sequence in order to determine sensor location. The learn mode will cancel if any of the following occurs:

    • All 4 sensor IDs have been learned.
    • More than 1 minute has passed and no sensor IDs have been learned.
    • The TPM system has been in learn mode for more than 5 minutes.
    • Vehicle battery voltage is below 8 volts.
    • The ignition is turned OFF.

If the learn mode is cancelled before any sensor IDs are learned, the RCDLR will remember all previously stored sensor IDs and their locations. As soon as the RCDLR learns the first sensor ID, all previously stored IDs are erased from the RCDLRs memory. Before proceeding with the steps below, ensure the TPM option is enabled in the RCDLR. Refer to Scan Tool Output Controls.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Important: If the sensor learn mode cannot be enabled, ensure the TPM option is enabled in the RCDLR as mentioned in the above supporting text.

  3. Press the keyless entry transmitter's lock and unlock buttons simultaneously until a single horn chirp sounds indicating the sensor learn mode has been enabled.
  4. Important: If the horn chirp does not sound after 15 seconds, remove then replace the sensor activating tool over the valve stem.

  5. Starting with the left front tire, hold the J 41760 over the left front valve stem until a horn chirp sounds.
  6. After the horn chirp sounds, proceed as in step 3 to the next sensors in the following order:
  7. • Right front
    • Right rear
    • Left rear
  8. After the left rear sensor ID is learned, the double horn chirp will sound to indicating all sensor IDs have been learned.

Tire Pressure Indicator Sensor Learn WC2 or WC8

Important: The following procedures can only be performed on vehicles equipped with enhanced mobility tires (WC2 or WC8). Since the tire pressure sensor is secured to the run flat ring inside the wheel/tire assembly, the sensor cannot be reached using the sensor activating magnet.
