Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Open the trunk.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Ajar Switch parameter in the body control module (BCM) data list.

Does the scan tool display On?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the trunk ajar switch.
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire between the control circuit of the trunk ajar switch and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the trunk ajar switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display On?

Go to Step 5

Test the signal circuit of the trunk ajar switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the trunk ajar switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the trunk ajar switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the trunk ajar switch.
