Operate the fuel door release switch.

Does the fuel door release operate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the fuel door release switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the fuel door release switch and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Momentarily connect a fused jumper between the battery positive voltage circuit and the ground circuit of the fuel door release switch.

Did the trunk open?

Go to Step 10

  1. Reconnect the fuel door release switch.
  2. Disconnect the fuel door release actuator.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the fuel door release actuator and a good ground.
  4. Press the fuel door release switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and the ground circuit of the fuel door release actuator.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Repair the high resistance, or open in the ground circuit of the fuel door release switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the high resistance, short or open in the battery positive voltage input circuit of the fuel door release switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the high resistance, short or open in the battery positive voltage input circuit of the fuel door release actuator. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the fuel door release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the fuel door release actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the fuel door release switch.
