Removal Procedure

Notice: Handle the oxygen sensors carefully in order to prevent damage to the component. Keep the electrical connector and the exhaust inlet end free of contaminants. Do not use cleaning solvents on the sensor. Do not drop or mishandle the sensor.

Notice: Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Resistance Learn Reset Notice in the Preface section.

Important: Remove oxygen sensors (O2S) with the engine temperature above 48°C (120°F). Otherwise the O2S may be difficult to remove.

Important: A special anti-seize compound is used on the O2S threads. New service sensors should already have the compound applied to the threads. Coat the threads of a reused sensor with anti-seize compound P/N 5613695 or equivalent.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 602294 Size: SH

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the HO2S.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the HO2S to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  3. Connect the HO2S electrical connector.
  4. Important: Ensure connectors are securely installed beneath harness heat shield to prevent connector damage.

  5. Install the heat shield. Refer to Catalytic Converter Heat Shield Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  6. Lower the vehicle and perform a code clear.
