Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
- Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the wire harness assembly (4) out of the wire harness strap (5).
- Remove the wire harness straps (3) from the wire harness assembly.
- Remove the wire harness strap (2) from the upper tilt head assembly (1).
- Disconnect the theft deterrent module electrical connector.
- Remove the theft deterrent module (2) from the lock module assembly.
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• Air bag deployment • Personal injury
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• Unnecessary SIR system repairs • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.
Installation Procedure
- Install the theft deterrent module (2) to the lock module (1).
- Route the electrical harness and connect the electrical connector.
- Install a new wire harness strap to the upper tilt head assembly (2).
- Install new wire harness straps to the wire harness assembly (3).
- Install the wire harness assembly into the wire harness strap (5).
- Connect the theft deterrent module electrical connector.
- Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
- Program the theft deterrent module. Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components .
