Front Brake Rotor Replacement J55

Tools Required

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

2. Remove the brake caliper assembly. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
3. Remove the brake caliper from the mounting bracket and support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent; do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
4. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the hub.
5. Remove the brake rotor.

Important: Whenever the brake rotor has been separated from the wheel bearing flange, clean any rust or contaminants from the wheel bearing flange and the brake rotor mating surfaces. Failure to do this may result in increased lateral runout of the brake rotor and brake pulsation.

1. Use theJ 41013 to clean the rust from the brake rotor flange.
2. Use theJ 42450-A to clean the mating surfaces on the brake rotor and the wheel bearing flange.
3. Install the brake rotor over the wheel studs onto the wheel bearing flange.
4. Install the brake caliper bracket assembly. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
5. Install the brake caliper assembly. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement
6. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

Front Brake Rotor Replacement Without J55

Tools Required

1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

2. Remove the brake caliper from the mounting bracket and support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire or equivalent; do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
3. Remove the brake caliper bracket assembly. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
4. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the hub.
5. Remove the brake rotor.

Important: Whenever the rotor has been separated from the wheel bearing flange, clean any rust or contaminants from the wheel bearing flange and the brake rotor mating surfaces. Failure to do this may result in increased lateral runout of the brake rotor, and brake pulsation.




1. Use the J 41013 in order to thoroughly clean any corrosion from the wheel bearing flange.
2. Use the J 42450-A in order to thoroughly clean any corrosion/rust from the brake rotor mating surface and mounting face.
3. Install the brake rotor over the wheel studs onto the wheel bearing flange.
4. Install the brake caliper bracket assembly. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
5. Install the brake caliper to the brake caliper bracket assembly. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
6. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
