Linear Shift Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle Power Tilt\\Telescope-Column Shift

J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers


    Object Number: 628932 Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the linear shift assembly and secure using 3 flat head 6 lobed socket tap screws.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  2. The lock cylinder should be in the OFF or LOCK position.

    3. Important: The locking tab at the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) must be secure in the lock module assembly.

  3. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1).

    4. Object Number: 516157 Size: SH
  4. Adjust the park lock cable assembly.
    5. 4.1. Use the gear shift lever to put the column in the park position.
    4.2. Put the ignition switch in the OFF or LOCK position. Remove the key.
    4.3. Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396 .
    4.4. Pull on the cable until the park lock latch contacts the gear shift lever. Release the cable.
    4.5. Lock the adjuster ring securely in place on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396 .
  5. Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
    6. 5.1. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF or LOCK position. The gear shift lever should not be able to shift out of the park position.
    5.2. Turn the key to the run position and put the gear shift lever in the neutral position.
    5.3. With the gear shift lever in the neutral position the lock cylinder should not be able to go into the OFF or LOCK position.
    5.4. Put the gear shift lever in the park position.
    5.5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF or LOCK position and then remove the key.
  6. Install the automatic transmission shift lock control assembly only. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  7. Install the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers

  1. Install the cable support bracket (4) onto the steering column and secure using the 3 flat head screws (3).

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the 3 flat head screws to 3.5 N·m (32 lb in)

  2. Install the linear shift assembly and secure using the 3 flat head 6 lobed socket tap screws.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the 3 6-lobed socket tap screws to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  3. The lock cylinder should be in the OFF or LOCK position.

    4. Important: The locking tab at the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) must be secure in the lock module assembly.

  4. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1).

  5. Adjust the park lock cable assembly using the following steps:
    6. 5.1. Use the gear shift lever to put the column in the park position.
    5.2. Put the ignition switch in the OFF or LOCK position. Remove the key.
    5.3. Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396 .
    5.4. Pull on the cable until the park lock latch contacts the gear shift lever. Release the cable.
    5.5. Lock the adjuster ring securely in place on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396 .
  6. Inspect the park lock cable assembly using the following steps:
    7. 6.1. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF or LOCK position. The gear shift lever should not be able to shift out of the park position.
    6.2. Turn the key to the run position and put the gear shift lever in the neutral position.
    6.3. With the gear shift lever in the neutral position the lock cylinder should not be able to go into the OFF or LOCK position.
    6.4. Put the gear shift lever in the park position.
    6.5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF or LOCK position and then remove the key.
  7. Install the automatic transmission shift lock control and bracket only. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  8. Install the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
