Installation Procedure

Important: The brake caliper bracket bolts threads and the threaded holes of the brake caliper bracket must be free of residue and debris prior to reapplication of threadlocker in order to ensure proper adhesion and fastener retention.

    • Prepare the bolts and the threaded holes for assembly:
      • Thoroughly clean the residue from the bolt threads by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
      • Thoroughly clean the residue from the threaded holes by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    • Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to two-thirds of the threaded length of the lower caliper bracket bolts. Ensure that there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the bolts.
    • Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately ten minutes before installation.

    Object Number: 369671 Size: SH
  1. Install the caliper bracket to the steering knuckle assembly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the brake caliper bracket bolt.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the caliper bracket bolt to 246 N·m (181 lb ft).

  5. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone lube to the brake caliper pin bolts.
  6. Install the brake pad retainers to the brake caliper bracket.
  7. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper bracket.
  8. Install the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.

Callout

Component Name

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the brake caliper and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent. DO NOT disconnect the brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
  3. Remove the brake pads. Refer to Front Disc Brake Pads Replacement.
