Circuit/System Description

The audio/video adaptor allows the connection of audio and video signals from an external device such as a camcorder, video game console or MP3 player to the TV antenna module, that passes the signals on to the navigation radio. The middle jack is for left audio (white), the right jack is for right audio (red), and the left jack is for video (yellow). The system requires standard RCA cables to connect your external device to the RCA jacks. The auxiliary audio and video circuits are connected to the TV antenna module.

Diagnostic Aids

Verify the external audio or video device is operating normally before performing this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Testing

Important: Verify the DVD player in the radio is operating normally before performing this diagnostic procedure. If there is any problems with operating the DVD player with a known good DVD, replace the Navigation Radio. Also, verify the TV system in operating properly, if TV tuner is poor or inoperative, refer to Navigation System - Poor or Inoperative TV Reception.

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the TV antenna module.
  2. Ignition ON, test for less then 1 volt between the appropriate signal circuit terminals listed below and ground.
  3. • Auxiliary audio left signal (+) - terminal 47
    • Auxiliary audio right signal (+) - terminal  48
    • Drain wire (-) - terminal  49
    • Auxiliary video signal (+) - terminal  52
    • Drain wire (+) - terminal  53
If greater then specified range, test the circuit for a short to voltage.
  4. Test for infinite resistance between the terminals listed below and ground.
  5. • Auxiliary audio left signal (+) - terminal 47
    • Auxiliary audio right signal (+) - terminal  48
    • Drain wire (-) - terminal  49
    • Auxiliary video signal (+) - terminal  52
    • Drain wire (+) - terminal  53
If less then the specified value, test the circuit for a short to ground.
  6. Test for less then 5 ohm between the terminals on the TV antenna module harness connector and the external terminals on the audio/video adaptor listed below:
  7. • Auxiliary audio left signal (+) - terminal 47 and the inside of the center (white) jack
    • Auxiliary audio right signal (+) - terminal 48 and the inside of the right (red) jack
    • Auxiliary audio drain wire (-) - terminal 49 and the outside of both the center (white), and the right (red) jacks
    • Auxiliary video signal (+) - terminal 52 and the inside of the left (yellow) jack
    • Auxiliary video drain wire (+) - terminal 53 and the outside of the left (yellow) jack
If greater then the specified value, test the circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the adaptor.
  8. If all circuits test normal, replace the TV antenna module.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.

    •  Auxiliary Audio/Video Input Control Replacement
    •  Television Antenna Module Replacement
