Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement CTS

Removal Procedure

    Notice: To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.


    Object Number: 899234  Size: SH
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Important: The area around the electronic brake control module (EBCM) must be free from loose dirt to prevent contamination of dissembled ABS components.

  3. Thoroughly clean all of the contaminants from and around the EBCM assembly.
  4. Press the retainer in the EBCM electrical connector (1).
  5. Rotate the EBCM connector tab (2) to the unlocked position.
  6. Disconnect the EBCM electrical connector (1) from the EBCM (3) and position out of the way.

  8. Remove and discard the 2 upper EBCM to brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) screws (1).
  9. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.
  11. Remove and discard the 2 lower EBCM to brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) screws (1).
  12. Lower the vehicle.

  14. Clean the surface of the EBCM/BPMV assembly.
  15. Important: The EBCM cannot be repaired. If faulty, the unit must be replaced.

  16. Separate the EBCM (1) from the BPMV (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 772017  Size: SH
  1. Clean the seal surface of the BPMV.
  2. Install the EBCM (1) to the BPMV (2).
  3. Make sure that the internal pump motor connector (3) is installed into the new EBCM (1) prior to EBCM replacement.
  4. Important: Use New EBCM/BPMV screws after separating the EBCM from the BPMV.

  5. Install the 2 upper NEW EBCM to BPMV screws.
  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  8. Install the 2 lower NEW EBCM to BPMV screws.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the (4) NEW EBCM to BPMV screws in sequence (1-4) to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  10. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Connect the EBCM electrical connector (1) to the EBCM (3).
  14. Rotate the EBCM connector tab (2) to the locked position.
  15. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  16. Perform the auto bleed procedure. Refer to Antilock Brake System Automated Bleed Procedure .
  17. If installing a new EBCM it is necessary to program the EBCM. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) in Programming and Setup.
  18. Perform the System Check-Vehicle. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.
  19. Recalibrate the brake pedal position sensor. Refer to Brake Pedal Position Sensor Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  20. Refer to Control Module References for programming and setup information.

Removal Procedure

    Notice: To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.
  4. Important: The area around the electronic brake control module (EBCM) must be free from loose dirt to prevent contamination of dissembled ABS components.

  5. Thoroughly clean all of the contaminants from and around the EBCM assembly.
  6. Press the retainer in the EBCM electrical connector (1).
  7. Rotate the EBCM connector tab (2) to the unlocked position.
  8. Disconnect the EBCM electrical connector (1) from the EBCM (3) and position out of the way.

  10. Remove and discard the EBCM to brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) screws (1).

  12. Clean the surface of the EBCM/BPMV assembly.
  13. Important: The EBCM cannot be repaired. If faulty, the unit must be replaced.

  14. Separate the EBCM (1) from the BPMV (2).

Installation Procedure

  2. Install the EBCM (1) to the BPMV (2).

  5. Install the NEW EBCM to BPMV screws.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the (4) NEW EBCM to BPMV screws in sequence (1-4) to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  7. Connect the EBCM electrical connector (1) to the EBCM (3).
  8. Rotate the EBCM connector tab (2) to the locked position.
  9. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  12. Perform the auto bleed procedure. Refer to Antilock Brake System Automated Bleed Procedure .
  13. If installing a new EBCM it is necessary to program the EBCM. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) in Programming and Setup.
  14. Perform the System Check-Vehicle. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.
  15. Recalibrate the brake pedal position sensor. Refer to Brake Pedal Position Sensor Replacement in Lighting Systems.
