Radio Displays CD ERROR Message or Will Not Play Certain CDs (Exchange Radio)

Some customers may comment that the radio will display a CD ERROR message or that the radio may not play a certain CD. They may also comment that other CDs will play properly in the vehicle. The suspect CD may play normally if tried in another model vehicle or radio. An examination of the suspect CD may reveal that it is a "multi-session" disc. A "multi-session" disc contains both audio tracks and data files.

This condition may be caused by a software anomaly that will cause a CD ERROR message to be displayed when a "multi-session" disc is inserted.

Technicians should verify the current radio software version using a Tech 2®. If the radio software version is not 3.13 and exhibits these conditions, then normal radio diagnostics should be followed. If the current radio has software version 3.13 and exhibits these conditions, technicians are to exchange the radio through an authorized Electronic Service Center (ESC). Refer to the Radio Replacement and Radio Setup procedures in SI for more information.

Replacement radios are to be obtained through an authorized ESC. State that the radio exchange is for one of the following reasons: CD error message, will not play certain CDs or intermittently will not play a CD. Please reference this bulletin number to ensure that the correct calibration is obtained. Corrected software will be identified as version 3.14 or higher.
