Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side LS6

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in the Preface section.

1. Remove the left exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side .
2. Remove the bolts (603) securing the exhaust manifold heat shield to the exhaust manifold.
3. Remove the heat shield from the manifold.

1. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield to the manifold.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Install the bolts (603) securing the exhaust manifold heat shield to the manifold.

Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to 10 N·m  (89 lb in).

3. Install the left exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side .

Tools Required

J 42640 Steering Column Anti-rotation Pin

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in the Preface section.

1. Install the J 42640 to the steering column. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column for the tool installation instructions.



2. Remove the upper exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
4. Remove the lower exhaust manifold heat shield bolt.
5. Disconnect the center intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft to provide a removal envelope for the shield. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.

1. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
2. Install but do not tighten the lower heat shield bolt.
3. Lower the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

4. Install the upper exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
6. Tighten the lower exhaust manifold heat shield bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

7. Install the center intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Remove the J 42640 .
