Inspect the automatic transmission shift linkage.

Is the adjustment correct?

Adjust the shift linkage. Refer to Shift Control Linkage Adjustment in Automatic Transmission - 5L40-E.

Inspect for incorrect, worn, or damaged key.

Inspect for a faulty lock cylinder or release button.
