POWER ANTENNA NOISY WHEN EXTENDING/RETRACTING (REPLACE)

SUBJECT: POWER ANTENNA NOISY WHEN EXTENDING OR RETRACTING (REPLACE WITH NEW DESIGN ANTENNA)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1991-1992 "C, D, E, H, K AND V" MODELS

Some 1991-92 model "C, D, E, H, K and V", models may experience a condition where the power antenna may create unacceptable noise when extending or retracting. This condition may be worse in colder weather.

To repair the condition replace the antenna with a new part number as shown below. The replacement antenna has a lower viscosity oil in the upper motor bearing and revised plastic shim washer. Antennas built after February 10, 1992 (Julian date 041 92) will use the lower viscosity oil and have an "O" suffix after the part number. Refer to Figure 1 for location of part numbers and production dates.

IMPORTANT: The telescoping portion of the antenna should be periodically cleaned but never lubricated as this will collect dirt and may cause premature failure.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
