SUBMITTING FOR WARRANTY CLAIMS ON NON-U.S. VEHICLES

SUBJECT: SUBMITTING FOR WARRANTY CLAIMS ON NON-U.S. VEHICLES

It has recently been brought to our attention that some dealers are not clear on the procedures used to submit for warranty work on non-U.S. vehicles. The following procedures apply to warranty work performed on vehicles whose origin is other than the U.S. (such as Canada, Mexico, and Europe). The submission for warranty claims on all of these vehicles is done in the normal manner providing the vehicle meets the following specified requirements:

A. Canadian

Canadian origin vehicles are subject to a reciprocal warranty agreement. If a Canadian customer is touring in the U.S., Cadillac will honor the Canadian warranty with minimal exceptions. The warranty on Canadian vehicles, 1989-1991, is 3 years/100,000 km and no deductible. If the repair involves a maintenance item covered by the Canadian warranty, the owner must pay for the work performed and take the receipt to his local Canadian Cadillac dealership for reimbursement.

B. Mexico

Mexican origin vehicles sold by an authorized GM dealer in the Mexican Republic are protected under the warranty set forth in the GM of Mexico Warranty Booklet. The terms stated in the warranty booklet should be closely adhered to. The major difference in coverage versus U.S. warranties are:

1. Complete vehicle coverage for 12 months and powertrain coverage for 24 months with no deductible.

2. Mileage limitation is 20,000 km (12,400 miles) for the complete vehicle and 40,000 km (24,860 miles) for the powertrain.

Cadillac dealers should provide the necessary warranty work provided the following conditions are met:

1. The customer is a bonafide tourist (not just crossing the border to have warranty work performed by a U.S. dealer).

2. The reported concern adversely affects the operation of the vehicle. (Non-essential repairs such as paint/upholstery do not qualify).

3. A properly completed Warranty Booklet is made available to the dealer.

If for any reason warranty work is denied, the reasons must be clearly indicated on the customer's copy of the repair order.

C. Other

Military personnel who are or have been temporarily assigned to overseas duty and still maintain vehicle registration in the United States are entitled to the remaining portion of the U.S. Cadillac New Vehicle Warranty upon their return to the United States.

If you have any further questions regarding the submission of warranty claims on these vehicles, please contact your local zone office.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
