NEW INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, MANIFOLD END SEAL & USAGE

SUBJECT: INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET END SEAL AND USAGE (ALL 1982-1991 CADILLAC MODELS WITH 4. 1L, 4.5L, 4.9L V-8 ENGINES)

A new design intake manifold end seal has been developed to improve the integrity of this joint. The new design shown in Figure 1 has reinforced flanges to more positively retain the seal in position. A pair of these revised seals (one front and one rear) are available by ordering P/N 3635212.

Transverse Applications:

The revised seals, P/N 3635212, may be used as supplied on all transverse engine applications and should be used instead of the end seals supplied with the currently available intake manifold resealing kits or the intake manifold gasket kits. Eventually the revised end seals will be included in the gasket kits.

Longitudinal Application :

In order to use the new design seals on longitudinal engines, slight modification is required. Figure 2 indicates one area of the front seal and two areas on the rear seal which must be relieved to accommodate internal ribs in the longitudinal block. Material should be trimmed away only enough to allow the seal to lie flat on the cylinder block. As much of the flange as possible should be retained.

The new design seals in P/N 3635212 should be used instead of the end seals supplied with the intake manifold resealing kits or intake manifold gasket kits. Eventually properly modified seals will be included in the gasket kits.

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
