NEW WARRANTY CLAIM- 'FAILURE' CODES

In order to provide more meaningful product information on warranty claims, effective July, 1990, changes will start taking place in the Warranty Claims Submission Application process. The changes are the result of a study which concluded the necessity of more accurate identification of warranty repairs (i.e., the complaint, cause, and correction) in order to improve the root cause analysis process.

The first change is to more specifically identify the cause of the problem that resulted in a warranty repair. To do this, new Failure (Trouble) Codes have been developed that will further enhance the analysis aspect of our products' performance. These new Failure Codes are designed to be much more specif ic and will more accurately describe the real cause behind the customer's complaint. The codes will be used Corporate-wide by all GM dealers and divisions.

Attached is a list of these new Failure Codes. This list supersedes Failure Codes published in Section A of all previous Cadillac Labor Time Guides and will be incorporated in the next Labor Time Guide revision scheduled for release in July. Copies should be made for your personnel (claims administrator, technicians, etc.) who are involved in warranty repairs and/or claims submissions.

Implementation of these new Failure Codes will be effective for all claims submitted on or after July 2, 1990.

We are taking these steps to become more "customer driven" and to enhance our ability to identify and correct the areas of concern on our products' performance. Your support of our efforts in this important step to better address our product quality, the vitally important CSI issue, and to continue to improve customer loyalty to Cadillac products and your dealership.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
