DEXRON IIE A/T FLUID PREFERRED (GENERAL INFORMATION)

SUBJECT: DEXRON-IIE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE FLUID

General Motors has developed a new service fill automatic transmission/transaxle fluid which is designated DEXRON-IIE. This fluid is the preferred fluid for all Hydra-Matic automatic transmissions/transaxles and will eventually replace DEXRON II. DEXRON-IIE is recommended for use wherever DEXRON II was previously specified and is back serviceable to 1949 for all General Motors automatic transmissions/transaxles.

DEXRON-IIE advantages over DEXRON II:

o Improved anti-foaming characteristics.

o Improved low temperature flow characteristics (low temperature viscosity).

o Improved high temperature oxidation stability.

DEXRON-IIE and DEXRON II can be mixed in any ratio and no draining or flushing of system is required. DEXRON II and DEXRON-IIE can be used in both electronically and hydraulically controlled transmissions/transaxles and can be substituted for each other when necessary.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
