Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side With IRS

J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

Caution: Refer to Park Brake Cable to Caliper Caution in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 732929  Size: SH
  1. Remove the left rear tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  2. Remove the adjusting nut.
  3. Remove the brake cable from the adjuster.
  4. For vehicles equipped with ABS only, remove the speed sensor harness from the trailing arm.

  6. Using the J 37043 , remove the brake cable (1) from the trailing arm retaining bracket.

  7. Object Number: 1526383  Size: SH
  8. Remove the brake cable (1) from the retaining bracket on the brake caliper.

  9. Object Number: 1523704  Size: SH
  10. Push the inner cable (1) as far forward as possible.
  11. Rotate the tip of the inner cable toward the brake caliper and remove from the actuator (2).

  13. Remove the brake cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the brake cable in the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 1523704  Size: SH
  3. Position the inner cable (1) in the brake caliper.
  4. Rotate the end of the brake toward the brake caliper and position the cable in the actuator (2).

  5. Object Number: 1523945  Size: SH
  6. Pull the inner cable (1) until the end of the brake cable is seated in the actuator.

  8. Install the brake cable in the retaining bracket (1) on the brake caliper.

    Important: Maintain proper rear park brake cable routing and clearances. Verify the rear park brake cables have a minimum of 10 mm and a maximum of 12 mm of clearance to the wheel drive shafts (1). Maintain this clearance using retention straps or equivalent retention (2).

  10. For vehicles equipped with ABS only, remove the speed sensor harness from the trailing arm.

  12. Install the brake cable (1) in the retaining bracket on the trailing arm.

  14. Install the adjusting nut.
  15. Adjust the park brakes. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  16. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
