Power Steering Pump Replacement 3.5L

Removal Procedure

    Important: It is not necessary to completely remove the drive belt from the engine.

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 417974  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the pump.

  5. Object Number: 417981  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the pump.
  7. Remove the engine electrical harness from the reservoir retainers.

  8. Object Number: 281721  Size: SH
  9. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
  10. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
  11. Remove the power steering pump pulley from the pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  12. Remove the reservoir from the pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the reservoir to the pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .
  2. Install the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 281721  Size: SH
  4. Install the pump to the vehicle.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Install the power steering pump bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  8. Connect the power steering return hose to the pump.

  9. Object Number: 417974  Size: SH
  10. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the pump.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  12. Install the engine electrical harness to the reservoir retainers.
  13. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement .
  14. Install the accessory drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  15. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Power Steering Pump Replacement 3.9L

Removal Procedure

    Important: It is not necessary to completely remove the drive belt from the engine.

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement .
  3. Remove the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 417974  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the pump.
  6. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the pump.
  7. Remove the engine electrical harness from the reservoir retainers.

  8. Object Number: 281721  Size: SH
  9. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
  10. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
  11. Remove the reservoir from the pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the reservoir to the pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .

  2. Object Number: 281721  Size: SH
  3. Install the pump to the vehicle.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the power steering pump bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  7. Connect the power steering return hose to the pump.
  8. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the pump.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  10. Install the engine electrical harness to the reservoir retainers.
  11. Install the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  12. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement .
  13. Install the accessory drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  14. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
