Circuit Description

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) has an internal voltage sensor with a dedicated circuit that monitors the battery positive voltage circuit to determine if it is below 18 volts.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B1328 Device Power Circuit High

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ignition positive voltage level is greater than 18 volts for 0.5 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The odometer and the PRNDL displays do not illuminate.
    • The fuel gage and the engine coolant temperature gage default to 0.
    • The scan tool does not communicate with the instrument cluster.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The DTC becomes history when the conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present.
    • The history DTC clears after 100 malfunction free warm-up cycles.
    • The IPC receives the clear code command from the scan tool.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Battery Voltage parameter in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) data list.

Does the voltage measure within the normal operating range?

10-15 V

Go to Step 3

Go to Charging System Test in Engine Electrical

3

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
