Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  2. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 645872  Size: SH
  4. Remove the intake manifold oil splash shield.

  5. Object Number: 61836  Size: SH
  6. Remove the lifter guide bolts.
  7. Remove the valve lifter guides.
  8. Remove the valve lifters.
  9. Clean all gasket surfaces with degreaser.
  10. Clean the valve train parts.
  11. Inspect the valve lifters and the cam lobes for wear. Refer to Valve Lifters Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 61836  Size: SH
  1. Coat the valve lifters with prelube. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
  2. Install the valve lifters to the same location from which they were removed.
  3. Install the valve lifter guides.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the valve lifter guide bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the intake manifold oil splash shield
  8. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  9. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
