Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Press and release each of the driver information center (DIC) switches.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the DIC Switch parameters in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) data list.

Does the scan tool display Active when each switch is pressed and Inactive when each switch is released?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Does the scan tool display Inactive when each switch is pressed?

Go to Step 9

Does the scan tool always display Active for the suspect switch even when the switch is released?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the suspect DIC Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Active for the suspect switch?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch assembly connector.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch and a good ground. Refer to Circuit Testing .
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the suspect DIC Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Active for the suspect switch?

Go to Step 10

Test the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the ground circuit of the DIC switch assembly for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC switch assembly. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
