Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Place the instrument panel courtesy lamp switch in the ON position.
  3. Place the instrument panel courtesy lamp switch in the DOOR position.
  4. Open and close each door and liftgate, waiting between each for the courtesy lamps to turn off after closing.

Do the courtesy lamps illuminate as expected?

Is only one lamp inoperative?

Go to Step 4

Test the power and ground circuits of the inoperative courtesy lamp for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Are all courtesy lamps inoperative at all times?

Is the INT/LAMP fuse in the instrument panel (I/P) fuse block open?

Test the following circuits for a short to ground:

    • Battery positive voltage from the INT/LAMP fuse
    • Courtesy lamp high control
    • Inadvertent power courtesy lamp

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the courtesy lamp high control and battery positive voltage (from the INT/LAMP fuse) circuits for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Are the courtesy lamps inoperative form the I/P switch?

  1. Disconnect the headlamp switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the courtesy lamps switch on signal circuit of the headlamp switch and ground.

Do the courtesy lamps illuminate?

Test the courtesy lamps switch off signal circuit of the headlamp switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the door/liftgate open switch signal circuit and ground circuit of the switch that does not illuminate the courtesy lamps properly for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for a poor connections at the harness connector of the inoperative door lock switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the high resistance or open in the courtesy lamps switch on signal circuit of the headlamp switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the inoperative courtesy lamp bulb.

Replace the inoperative switch. Refer to the following:

    •  Front Side Door Lock Replacement in Doors
