SERVICE GUILD: A/C COMPRESSOR BOLT/STUD TORQUE LOSS (REPAIR

PREVENTING A/C COMPRESSOR BOLT/STUD TORQUE LOSS (Revised to Update Information.)

Vehicles Affected: 1987 AND 1988 L-4 ENGINES (VIN CODES K AND M) ----------------- IN J AND N CAR APPLICATIONS

Any repair to the A/C compressor or the A/C belt system will require loosening some A/C bracket bolts. To prevent future torque loss after retightening of these bolts, a preferred repair method is recommended.

All the A/C compressor bolts use an adhesive patch for high initial torque retention. To maintain the high torque after any repair, the bolt or stud should be replaced with an appropriate new bolt or stud OR apply Loctite(R) to the bolt or stud threads. Follow the Loctite (R) package instructions for best retention. The Loctite (R) 262 material, P/N 993363 (6 ml) or P/N 992959 (10 ml) is available from CANSPO.

This bulletin is for information only.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
