IDLE SPEED SPECS. CORRECTIONS TO SHOP MANUAL

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1.8L Engine and !'A" and "N" With 2.5L

The idle speed specifications listed on page 6E2-Al-5o in the 1986 Oldsmobile Firenza, Calais, Ciera, 88 and 98 Chassis Service Manual, Volume 1 is incorrect for the Firenza equipped with the 1.8L engine and the cutlass Ciera and Calais equipped with the 2.5L engine. The nominal warm engine idle speeds for both the 1.8L and 2.5L engines in Neutral is 900 RPM +/- 50 RPM. The warm engine idle with an automatic transmission in Drive is 800 RPM +/- 50 RPM.

Please make these corrections in your 1986 service manual.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
