SUBJECT: VEHICLE EMITS SULFUR SMELL (ROTTEN EGG SMELL - REPLACE CATALYTIC CONVERTER)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990-91 "N" CAR WITH 2.SL ENGINE -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition:

---------- Some 1990-91 N cars may emit a sulfur odor (rotten egg smell).

Cause:

------ The vehicle emits a sulfur odor due to a combination of high sulfur level in the fuel and the particular driving schedule of the vehicle involved.

Correction:

----------- Replace the existing (Beaded) catalytic converter. The monolith converter utilizes technology that cannot be applied to the beaded converter to reduce the emission of Hydrogen Sulfide gas, the source of the sulfur smell. Refer to "Parts Information" below for new part number.
