FLASHING TELLTALES/IPC DISPLAY WITH IGNITION OFF (NEW PART)

SUBJECT: FLASHING TELLTALES OR IPC DISPLAYS WITH IGNITION OFF (REPLACE TRUNK PULLDOWN SWITCH/TRUNK PULLDOWN)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1986-91 E,K

Some 1986-91 Eldorados and Sevilles may experience random flashing of instrument panel telltales or IPC displays with the ignition in the "OFF" position. This may be caused by electrical feedback to the BCM from the trunk pulldown unit. To diagnose this condition, open the trunk while the IPC displays are flashing. If opening the trunk stops the displays from flashing, feedback from the trunk pulldown unit may be causing the condition.

1986-1988:

The condition can be repaired by replacing the trunk pulldown switch with a new design switch, P/N 16603372, as follows:

1. Remove trunk rear trim panel. 2. Disconnect wire connector at trunk pulldown unit. 3. Remove screw holding trunk pulldown switch to trunk pulldown unit and remove trunk pulldown latch. 4. Install new trunk pulldown switch, being careful not to damage switch contacts on trunk pulldown latch. 5. Reconnect wire connector and reinstall trunk rear trim panel.

1989-1991:

The condition can be repaired by replacing the trunk pulldown unit (the switch is not serviceable) with P/N 16601101, refer to the appropriate Cadillac Service Information Manual for replacement procedure.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
